A few practical answers before you show up, partner with us, or bring Volunteer Together to your community.
Volunteering
How do I find an opportunity?
Visit the Events page to browse upcoming opportunities. Each listing should include the location, schedule, volunteer role, accessibility information, age requirements, and anything you need to bring.
Is it free to volunteer?
Volunteer Together aims to keep service opportunities free. If an unusual cost or optional contribution applies, it will be disclosed clearly before registration.
Can children or teens participate?
Age requirements vary by activity and partner organization. Minors may need a parent or guardian present and may require additional consent forms. Always check the event listing before registering.
Are opportunities accessible?
We want volunteers to have the information they need to participate. Event listings should describe the environment and known access considerations. Contact us before registering if you need a reasonable accommodation or additional detail.
Will I need a background check?
Some roles—particularly those involving children, vulnerable people, driving, confidential information, or ongoing placement—may require screening or training. Requirements will be identified before participation.
What if I need to cancel?
Please cancel as early as possible using the instructions in your registration confirmation or by contacting the organizer. Advance notice helps the partner adjust staffing and gives another volunteer a chance to participate.
Groups and partners
Can my workplace, school, or group volunteer together?
Yes. Some public events can accommodate groups, and custom service opportunities may be possible. Use the Partners page to share your group size, location, timing, and cause interests.
Can my organization request volunteers?
Yes. We welcome inquiries from established nonprofit organizations, schools, and community groups. Requests are reviewed for mission fit, community benefit, safety, timing, accessibility, and available volunteer capacity.
Chapters and donations
How do I start a chapter?
Begin with the Start a Chapter page and submit an inquiry. A chapter may operate under the Volunteer Together name only after written approval and completion of the required onboarding process.
Where does my donation go?
Donations support Volunteer Together’s charitable programs and operations, which may include volunteer events, supplies, outreach, chapter resources, technology, education, and administration. Any campaign-specific restrictions will be stated on the donation form.
Will I receive a receipt?
Online donors receive a confirmation and receipt at the email address provided. Keep it for your records. Tax treatment depends on Volunteer Together’s legal status, the nature of the gift, and applicable law; consult a qualified tax professional when needed.
